walking here at night
watching passers-by
i see your face in all
and then i realize
it was not so sweet
as once i may have thought
was not long a part of me
maybe indeed too hot
too much to contain
too much a step inside
feeling like you run from me
and need a place to hide
i wish i could walk away
as easy as you make it look
i wish i could hide a bit
and let me off the hook
and i would like to take a moment
just a bit of your time
to let you know that this work
has been a self-told lie
the first lines are true
i see you everywhere
up till "realize"
and the lies begin there...

when you find yourself drifting 
out in the world, alone
i should hope that you call me
that's one thing you should know
above all else we can laugh
we can smile and cry
we can sit down in the valley 
or soar through the sky
if there is ever a time
